PSD Trainer Selection Process and Application

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Professional Scrum Trainer to teach the Professional Scrum Developer (PSD) course. The process is outlined below.

Step 1: Prerequisites

Scrum.org is looking for people with deep experience using Scrum in software development. To apply as a PST candidate for the PSD program, you must first:

Have several years’ experience creating software with Scrum Teams.
Have extensive experience and knowledge in the technologies, tools, and practices covered in the PSD course.
Have provided technical and Scrum training and coaching.
Have achieved at least a 95% score on the PSM I assessment.

Step 2: Submit Application

If you possess the qualifications we're looking for and want to join an amazing community of fellow trainers, we want to get to know you! Our application (below) gives you an opportunity to tell us about your experience and motivations for becoming a PST. We will respond to your application after reviewing it.

Fee: There is no application fee. Instead, a score of 95% on the PSM I assessment is needed to submit your application. ($150 per attempt)

Step 3: Get Trained

Scrum.org invites qualified trainer candidates to attend a designated train-the-trainer (TTT) event. Do not register for a training as a trainer candidate until your application has been reviewed. The TTT for PSD is a special 5-day event consisting of a 2-day Professional Scrum Foundations TTT course followed by a 3-day Professional Scrum Developer TTT course. All candidates are evaluated and given feedback by the course instructors and will need their approval to continue.

Fee: Typically $3995 registration fee (plus travel and expenses). Note that trainers in secondary markets may be eligible to receive discounted registration.

Step 4: Assessments and Interviews

Following the training, we delve deeper into your knowledge, training skills, and ways you plan to contribute to the PST community.

Achieve at least a 95% score on the PSD I assessment (limit of 2 attempts within 6 months).
Pass the PSM II assessment.
Take part in an online interview with a Scrum.org staff member and receive approval for moving forward.
Take part in an online one-hour peer-review with a panel of existing PSTs and pass peer-evaluation.

Fee: $0. Candidates receive two attempts for the PSD I assessment, and one for the PSM II assessment. If the required assessment scores are not achieved, you can purchase an additional attempts after 6 months ($200 for PSD I, $250 for PSM II).

Step 5: Join the PST Community

Review and agree to all the terms of being a PST, which are contained in the trainer license. Two key terms include teaching Professional Scrum Developer courses using only standard Scrum.org PSD courseware and participating in one in-person Global Trainer Meeting each year (called a Face-to-face or "F2F").

Fee: For trainers who teach in primary markets, the first year license fee is $3500. ($2500 for trainers who teach exclusively in secondary markets).

Total Startup Fees: ~ USD $7,645 ($5,645 for trainers who teach exclusively in secondary markets)

Ongoing costs once licensed to teach PSD: Each time you teach the course, you pay a per-student fee to Scrum.org. This fee is $300 for public courses in primary markets and can be much lower for private courses and in secondary markets. Your students receive one free PSD I assessment attempt ($200 value) after taking the PSD course. Note that trainers in secondary markets receive discounted pricing on courseware licensing.

Cost to join a F2F: All PSTs attend one exclusive F2F Global Trainer Meeting each license-year term. There is no fee to join these events, however travel is necessary for most PSTs. Several choices are available each year in the US and Europe. December 2016 heralds our first F2F in Asia-Pacific (Australia).
