Professional Scrum Product Owner™ Certifications

Validate and certify their understanding of the accountabilities of the Product Owner

To be effective, Product Owners need to have a firm grasp on the value drivers for their product, and a keen sense of how to use agile practices and Scrum to maximize that value.  The Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) assessments allow people to validate and certify their understanding of the role of the Product Owner and how they would respond to real situations that would challenge them.

What is a Professional Scrum Product Owner™

Professional Scrum Product Owners demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of Scrum, the Product Owner role and their ability to apply that knowledge in real-world situations.  The value of certification is intimately tied to the demonstration of knowledge needed to achieve it. By that measure, the PSPO assessments are significantly more valuable than available alternatives for Scrum Product Ownership. And, we strive to ensure that they remain valuable and relevant through frequent inspection and adaptation of the assessment content.

People that have passed PSPO I and achieved certification demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the Scrum framework, and how to apply it to maximize the value delivered with a product. They exhibit a dedication to continued professional development, and a high level of commitment to their field of practice. Achieving PSPO I is the minimum demonstration of knowledge any Professional Scrum Product Owner should be able to make.

Professional Scrum Product Owner II (PSPO II) certificate holders demonstrate an advanced level of Professional Scrum Product Ownership knowledge and understanding of how the Scrum framework can support the creation of value. They have shown an understanding of topics including: product vision, product backlog management, release and portfolio planning, business strategy, and working with stakeholders.

The Professional Scrum Product Owner III (PSPO III) certification demonstrates a distinguished level of understanding of how to own a vision, manage a Product Backlog, and engage with stakeholders & customers to deliver valuable products using Scrum.

Becoming A Professional Scrum Product Owner

It is not mandatory that you take a Scrum.org Professional Scrum training class to take one of our assessments, although it is highly recommended.  We believe that certification is more than just a way to show that you attended a class and that is why Scrum.org Professional certifications are so highly regarded in the industry. Therefore, we make assessments available to anyone as a way for you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the role of Product Owner in detail.  Each Scrum.org training class includes a free attempt at the corresponding assessment.

Those that pass the PSPO assessments will receive the corresponding industry recognized certification. There are three options for Professional Scrum Product Owner assessment: PSPO I, PSPO II and PSPO III.
